Tucson,
the "Old Pueblo" developed around a city
center concept, with the bustling El Conquistador Hotel
as its center. Years later, in 1960, the original El Con
Mall opened in the heart of the community as its first
enclosed shopping center.
The
new Master Plan transforms the ordinary shopping
experience into an urban town center of yesterday, where
entire families can spend a day shopping, dining, or
just old-fashioned window shopping. A complete day at El
Con will allow families to shop at a unique variety of
retail stores, take in a movie, buy fresh
vegetables, browse through the galleries for great art,
view working artists' studios, find out more about Rio
Nuevo and area museums and attractions, meet for
cocktails and dinner, or just people-watch while
enjoying the lush garden areas.
From
bustling Broadway Blvd, El Con Mall will project a
historic Spanish Colonial image. This new facade will
house the life-style restaurant plaza, creating a
vibrant and animated panorama which will be an
irresistible attraction to the thousands of cars passing
daily on Broadway Blvd. This "main street
cityscape" will define the new and exciting
retail-tainment venues awaiting inside El Con Mall.
The
lush plaza theme is carried throughout the enclosed
climate controlled portions of the center. The central
retail plaza acts as a "hub", linking all of the
surrounding plazas to encourage a total shopping and
entertainment experience at the new El Con Mall.
